$163mn road development in Al Jaddaf

Dubai RTA (Road and Transport Authority), on Sunday announced a major $163mn road development in Al Jaddaf, Zabeel, and Oud Metha areas. All these road developments are a part of the larger project known as Sheikh Rashid Corridor Development Project.

This initiative was directed by Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and the Prime Minister of the UAE, the Ruler of Dubai, and was followed by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai. The entire project aims to enhance Dubai’s infrastructure to acknowledge Urban Growth and Population Expansion.

The development areas will include the following areas such as Zabeel, Al Jaddaf, Oud Metha, Umm Hurair, Latifa Hospital, and Al Wasl Club. This project is projected to cater to over 420,000 people by the year 2030.

As per the statement released by DMO (Dubai Media Office), “Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, highlighted that Oud Metha and Al Asayel Streets Development Project is one of most important infrastructure projects.”

This $163mn road development project will further increase Oud Metha Street’s capacity from 10,400 to 15,600 vehicles per hour and reduce travel time from 20 minutes to 5 minutes, “reflecting a 50 percent hike in capacity. It will also reduce travel time on the route from 20 minutes to just 5 minutes, a massive improvement of 75 percent,” the statement further elaborated.

Under the project, four main intersections will be developed such as:

• Oud Metha Street and Sheikh Rashid Street intersection
• Oud Metha Street with Al Asayel and Al Nawras Streets intersection
• Al Nawras Street and Al Khail Road intersection
• Zabeel Palace Street with Al Khail and Oud Metha Street intersection

Major improvements such as additional lanes, new bridges, and capacity improvements will be noticed in every intersection. A major development of Ras Al Khor Road has already been seen as a part of the Sheikh Rashid Corridor Development Project. The capacity has been increased to 10,000 vehicles per hour and the travel time has been reduced from 20 to 7 minutes.
