RTA Opens two-lane bridge

RTA opens two-lane bridge on Sheikh Rashid Road, Dubai. It is the second bridge within the Phase 4 of Al Shindagha Corridor improvement project. This newly bridge has been constructed by the Road and Transport Authority to facilitate the traffic flow from the intersection of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Street and Sheikh Rashid Road. The bridge sprawls 605 meters, and comprises of two lanes with a designed capacity of accommodating 3,200 vehicles per hour. 

The phase 4 of the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement project encircles the construction of 4 bridges with a total length of 3.1 kilometers and a combined copacoty about 19,400 vehicles per hour across all the lanes. 

The very first bridge was opened in December 2024 to facilitate the flow of the traffic from the intersection of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed street and Rashid road towards Al Mona Street and the Falcon intersection. 

This bridge spans across 1,335 metres,l and features three lanes and a capacity of 4,800 vehicles per hour.

Another bridge is expected to get completed by the second quarter of 2025. This bridge will aid the flow of the traffic from Al Mina street to the intersection of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Road and Sheikh Rashid Road. This 3-lane bridge extends 1,210 meters and can capacity’s 4,800 vehicles per hour.

The project also encompasses the development of 4.8km of roads, in addition with enhancements to surface intersections on Jumeirah Street, Al Mina Street, and Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street. Moreover, it also includes the construction of two pedestrian bridges—one on Sheikh Rashid Road and the other on Al Mina Street. The entire scope of work includes street lighting, traffic systems, rainwater drainage networks, and irrigation systems.

This project by RTA, includes the development of 15 intersections and serves both the communities of Deira and Bur Dubai, in addition to prominent developments and communities, such as Dubai Islands, Deira Waterfront, Dubai Maritime City, and Port Rashid.

The project by the Roads and Transport Authority is expected to benefit 1 million residents by ensuring free-flowing traffic along Al Shindagha Corridor, further improving the capacity of the road and operational efficiency, and reducing travel time from 104 minutes to 16 minutes by 2030. Moreover, it also aims to enhance traffic safety standards, with expected cost savings from reduced travel time estimated at Dh45 billion over the next 20 years.
