RTA achieves completion of Al Khail Road

The RTA achieves the completion of Al Khail Road Development project across 7 key locations. It includes the construction of 5 bridges sprawling across 3,300 meters and road widening over 6,820 meters. The seven key locations along Al Khail road are:

  1. Al Jaddaf
  2. Business Bay
  3. Zabeel
  4. Meydan
  5. Al Quoz 1
  6. Ghadeer Al Tair
  7. Jumeirah Village Circle

This new road development project serves 1.5 million people and results in 30% reduction in travel time, whilst boosting the capacity of existing intersections and bridges to accommodate around 19,600 vehicles per hour. It also improves the traffic flow on Al Khail road, and solve the problem of traffic overlapping at interchanges, and makes sure that the traffic is flowing freely.

The Road and Transport Authority (RTA, Dubai) followed a new approach to boost the construction process, reducing the construction period from 18 months to 9 months, a remarkable decrease of 80%- by awarding contracts to multiple companies. As a result, the daily workforce of 5K engineers and labourers was deployed, logging 6 million working hours, and using 650 machines and equipment on a daily basis.

The project, Al Khail Road Development Project is one of the most strategic projects that are aimed at upgrading parallel and supporting road corridors to Sheikh Zayed Road, Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road, and the Emirates Road. Al Khail Road is also one of the primary roads in Dubai, commencing from the Business Bay crossing and ending at its intersection with Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed road. This road consists of 5 lanes in each direction, expanding to more than 6 lanes in some areas.
