Empower, also known as Emirates Cooling Systems Corporation PJSC, the world’s largest district cooling services provider, has awarded a contract to design second district cooling plant in Jumeirah Village, for which the construction is set to begin in the first quarter of 2025.

Jumeirah Village is one of the largest projects undertaken by Empower, with the number of new generation plants in the area set to reach the number of 6 in the near future, serving the complete project with a total capacity of 256,000 refrigeration tons. The anticipated project is divided into two consecutive areas, Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC) which spans an area of 560 hectares and Jumeirah Village Triangle (JVT) spanning over an area of 242 hectares.

The new plant is the second among the six future plants in Jumeirah Village after its first plant, which is the first autonomous cooling plant in the world which is currently serving about 114 buildings with a production capacity of 49,000 refrigeration tons. The new plant will have a production capacity of approximately 37,000 refrigeration tons featuring advanced cooling technologies followed by the characteristics of lowest energy and water consumption to serve several residential and commercial buildings, hotels, and others.

Jumeirah Village, one of the most famous communities attracts a wide variety of residents, due to its prominent location in the heart of New Dubai amidst green spaces, where individuals and families of different sizes live due to the availability of many amenities and services, such as schools, shopping and entertainment destinations, fitness centers, and others.

His Excellency Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, said, “Jumeirah Village is witnessing a great demand from investors to develop multi-use buildings, and the award of the new contract comes in the context of implementing our well-thought-out plans to meet the large and increasing demand for environmentally friendly district cooling services and the readiness of the corporation to meet future needs in Jumeirah Village.”

He further stressed that “the engineering design of the new station is in harmony with the rest of the Corporation’s stations, as the Corporation applies the highest international and local standards for green buildings in all its stations, and is committed to improving the efficiency of using various resources to reduce the impact of buildings on human health and the environment during the actual life cycle of the building, in support of the UAE’s efforts to transition to a sustainable green economy, the UAE’s specific national pledges and commitments to confront climate change, and the “Smart Dubai” initiative, which aims to make Dubai the smartest and happiest city in the world.
